I did not know what to expect when I saw the tile of Elisa
Morgan’s new book, but I knew I trusted Elisa’s voice and her love for God. So,
I decided to give it a try. The Prayer Coin is a beautiful book centered
around the two-sided prayer Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane; take this
cup, yet your will be done. The implications of Jesus’s prayer are often overlooked
when it comes to how it applies to us. Often, we get so caught up in giving
Jesus our desires, wants, and needs, that we forget His will be done. Or, we
get so focused on His will be done, that we stop being honest with Him. But,
Jesus’s prayer gives us an invitation to pray with both honesty and abandon in
our everyday lives. Elisa walks us through the two sides of Jesus’s prayer in a
relatable and approachable way, while challenging us to try praying this way
today. The Prayer Coin, is a beautifully written short book on prayer
that will impact the way you view prayer and your relationship with God.
Prayer has always been a struggle for me. If God knows me
completely, including my thoughts, why do I need to pray to Him? I have never
felt connected to God through closing my eyes, folding my hands, and talking. I
just never got the point. Until this book. I had heard the not my will, but
yours be done prayer said by many, but never really considered the depth of the
prayer through Jesus lips, and what that means for me. The way Jesus prayed in
the Garden of Gethsemane is an invitation to intimacy with Jesus. I am not
praying to let God know what is up with me, I am praying to know God’s will and
allow Him to transform me. The Prayer Coin has been so impactful in seeing prayer as a way to know God more,
without being over my head or complicated. I highly recommend this book if you
are struggling with prayer or are wanting to grow in intimacy with Jesus.
